Hello community! 👋

The holiday season is here, and I can already picture myself sitting by the fireplace, enjoying a cup of hot coffee. However, we are not ready to say goodbye to the year just yet!

The team has been busy making plans for the upcoming year, while also actively participating in events like AWS re:invent. Mandi and Dormain attended the event, and I hope you had the chance to meet them if you were in Las Vegas. If not, there will be other opportunities.

During re:invent we released a video of PagerDuty Copilot, the new GenAI assistant for critical operations work.

This week, Dormain and other PagerDuty colleagues have been attending Gartner IT Infrastructure, Operations & Cloud Strategies Conference in Las Vegas and the feedback has been great. Looks like Dormain's session rocked! 🤘

On the open source world, we released new capabilities for the PagerDuty plugin for Backstage. With this new release you can create services in PagerDuty directly from a Backstage Software Template. Imagine creating a new service based on a template provided to you and automatically onboard that same service into PagerDuty and configure the PagerDuty Card in Backstage...in one step! 🤯

Jeli is now part of PagerDuty! This deal represents a strategic alignment of visions, technologies and goals that will have a lasting impact on the industry and our customers. As we get to the end of the year PagerDuty takes another solid step in the direction of becoming the number one choice for incident management through the acquisition of Jeli.

This deal represents a strategic alignment of visions, technologies and goals that will enable PagerDuty Operations Cloud improve enterprise resilience, reduce the impact and risk of operational failure for our customers, and lessen the need for costly point solutions. 🔑 Build sophisticated apps with OAuth 2.0 and API Scopes

Our very own Mandi Walls, walks us through the journey of building custom applications to manage PagerDuty environments. This is a path that many advanced customers follow and now PagerDuty provides a better way to do so.

With OAuth 2.0 and API Scopes logged-in users will only have access to the objects they would also be able to see via the web UI and on top of that their access will also be constrained by the scopes requested by the application you built. This improves security which is not only recommended but also mandatory in many regulated industries.

Our first experience with any software platform is very important - PagerDuty is not different. 🥑🇵🇹 Avocados United… Lisbon edition!

👋 Xenda here, writing my first weekly update, yay! I'm happy to share that after joining PagerDuty a month ago, Dev Advocate Tiago and I had the amazing opportunity to meet Kat, Mandi and Tara in person during the Lisbon stop of their "Euro tour." Tara arrived in Lisbon shortly after giving the talk Resilience: Building a burnout-resistant life in developer relationships at DevRelCon London and was super excited in sharing with the team all interesting topics from the conference. Kat and Mandi left Lisbon straight to SREday stage in London, for the Mastering Incident Communications (Kat) and Futuristic Luxury Incident Response (Mandi) presentations.

Busy-cados! Besides aligning our values as a team and learning how to bake delicious pasteis de nata (portuguese custard tarts 😋) we committed to walking (a lot!) through the streets of Lisbon, while contributing to #step-tember, a global PagerDuty challenge that gives an opportunity for PD folks across the globe to fundraise, get active and connect!

Handle crises the same that PagerDuty does…with PagerDuty!

September is global preparedness month for PagerDuty employees. Through multiple interactive, fun and cross-functional activities, endorsed by our Senior Leadership, employees get prepared to act in moments of crisis. We do this because we run our services 24x7 and so do most of our customers.

To handle moments of crisis the same way that we do, by using PagerDuty Operations Cloud, check out the blog post and don’t miss the references to the Crisis Response Management Operations Guide for all the details on how to do it.

Automation for everyone with AI-Generated Runbooks

Operational efficiency is as critical within the IT and engineering teams as any other part of the business. Automating repetitive tasks and reducing escalations within and to these teams is of immense value. This task requires a certain set of skills that only a limited number of people inside the organization have. Or does it?

To help our customers achieve their goals with automation, we announced public Early Access for AI-Generated Runbooks. Now, Runbook Automation users can write the task they wish to automate in plain-English and let AI build a template of automation for that particular task.

SMS has been present in our lives for so long that we assume it is a technology that doesn’t fail. It is used as a second factor of authentication for many critical services, such as banking, so it must be flawless.
